Developing High-Quality School Emergency Operations Plans: A Collaborative Process

For the last 5 years, Mr. Lee has facilitated the Central Arizona School Emergency Preparedness Response Consortium, which has grown from three school districts to approximately 40 districts agencies.
On Thursday, October 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. EST, the U.S. Department of Education (ED), Office of Safe and Healthy Students (OSHS), along with its Readiness and Emergency Management (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center and our Federal partners, hosted a webinar on the importance of collaborating with community partners in the process of developing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality school emergency operations plans (EOPs).
This 1-hour webinar focused on the importance of collaborating with community partners, as detailed in Step 1 of the Six-Step Planning Process outlined in the Guide for Developing High-Quality School Emergency Operations Plans, and as illustrated through examples and tips from practical experience in the field.
Items discussed included:
- What roles community partners can play during the EOP development and plan maintenance process;
- Obstacles that can occur during the collaborative process, such as conflicts of time and other constraints, and methods for mitigating them; and,
- Specific examples of successful collaboration with community partners.
This 1 hour webinar included a live PowerPoint presentation, as well as a Question and Answer session following the presentation.
