On Wednesday, August 7, 2013, the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) the Office of Safe and Healthy Students (OSHS) and the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center hosted a 90-minute webinar providing an overview of the recently released Guide for Developing High-Quality School Emergency Operations Plans, and additional information on school culture and climate. The new Guide will help schools develop and implement high-quality emergency operations plans (EOPs). It also describes the principles and processes that will help ensure school planning efforts are aligned with emergency planning practices at national, state, and local levels. Mr. Hamed Negron-Perez, a Program Specialist with OSHS at the U.S. Department of Education, presented the webinar. Mr. Negron-Perez was part of the team that assisted with the development of the new Guide. He has been conducting both on-site trainings and online webinars on the Guide since its release. Mr. Negron-Perez is a former Secondary School Principal and Science Teacher with over 14 years of experience. The webinar provided an overview of:
