The new Guide will help schools develop and implement high-quality emergency operations plans (EOPs). It also describes the principles and processes that will help ensure school planning efforts are aligned with emergency planning practices at national, state, and local levels.

Mr. Hamed Negron-Perez, a Program Specialist with OSHS at the U.S. Department of Education, presented the webinar. Mr. Negron-Perez was part of the team that assisted with the development of the new Guide. He has been conducting both on-site trainings and online webinars on the Guide since its release. Mr. Negron-Perez is a former Secondary School Principal and Science Teacher with over 14 years of experience.

The webinar provided an overview of:

  • the key principles for developing a comprehensive school EOP;
  • the planning process for developing, implementing, and refining a school EOP;
  • the form, function, and content of a school EOP; and
  • topics that support school emergency operations planning, emphasizing school climate, and including information sharing, active shooter situations, and psychological first aid for schools.
